Leopard Creek The Reserve

What are we?

Leopard Creek is a magnificent Private Conservation Reserve situated in the Limpopo Province in the beautiful country of the Republic of South Africa. Formally a cattle ranch and then a hunting farm, Leopard Creek is now managed as a conservation reserve, and is involved with habitat management and biodiversity surveys for the promotion and protection of wildlife and their habitats. Leopard Creek is now dedicated to the land and its wildlife in the hope to conserve and restore the natural dynamics within this wonderful ecosystem. For more information about what we are about please view our Mission Statement.

The 700ha reserve is contained within the unique habitats of the Waterberg Biosphere area and as a result, is home to an abundance of bird and plant life, reptiles, moths and butterflies, many species of antelope, brown hyena, leopard, aardvark, pangolin and many more species of which some are protected by law. For the Species List.

Where are we?

We are approximately 65km from both Lephalale (formerly known as Ellisras) and Vaalwater, 250km north of Pretoria. We are situated in the Bushveld region of Limpopo Province. This province is in the Savannah biome; an area of mixed grassland and trees, which is generally known as Bushveld. The Bushveld area is home to majestic mountains, primeval indigenous forests, latter-day plantations, unspoilt wilderness areas and a patchwork of farming land. To many people the bushveld is the most typical and the most beautiful veldtype in South Africa.

We are located in The Waterberg, the natural beauty and startling diversity of the bushveld savanna, with its endless stretches of grass and trees bordered by the Waterberg Mountain Range, cannot but soothe the stressed city soul. In addition, the large animal population and prolific birdlife, interesting people and fascinating history, hot mineral springs and adventure activities make it the favourite place of many South Africans and knowledgeable overseas travellers. For more information see Waterberg Information.

What we do and what we offer

We offer the chance to get closer to the Natural World. Our beautiful wooden lodges allow people to come and stay, learn about and enjoy the wildlife and ecoystems. Our conference facilities offer corportate clients to escape the 'office' and big cities and have an inspired meeting or team building session out in the bush. Our volunteer and research programme will allow anyone to come and learn in-depth knowledge about the unique habitat of the bushveld and the secret behaviours of the wildlife that occurs, as well as vitally contributing to the protection and restoration of this important habitat.
